ADC Makers Markets, 2020-2022. Darlinghurst, Sydney.
Australian Design Centre has hosted the event Sydney Craft Week for the last 9 years.
While employed at ADC between 2020-2022, one of the crucial parts of my role was as coordinator of the ADC Makers Markets, held twice a year, including during Sydney Craft Week each October. Each market draws a crowd of between 700-1000 attendees during the day (10am-4pm).
In this role I was responsible for liaising with the City of Sydney council Events Team, a private traffic control contractor, Kings Cross Police and local Fire and Ambulance, and a marquee/table hire company.
In addition to this, I was also responsible for creating the shortlist of market vendors for approval by our CEO, and maintaining ongoing communication with 20-30 artists and food vendors to be included in the final market line-up.
I also collaborated with our Communications Manager for market promotion, briefed gallery staff prior to the event, and conducted post-event surveys with all stakeholders in order to assess and identify areas for future improvement.
As these markets were scheduled in and around the covid lockdowns, we also had to carefully navigate current social distancing laws, provision of masks and hand-sanitiser, and ensuring all visitors signed in on the Services NSW covid check-in app before entry to the event area.
The 50-60 metre street closure required overnight installation of traffic barriers by our contracted traffic control team. On one occasion, a vehicle was moved through the barriers overnight and parked within the closure zone — the driver was uncontactable until mid-event. Kings Cross Police were engaged to locate the owner via numberplate, and the situation was resolved without major disruption to the market.
