The Cocoon, Peats Ridge Festival, 2010. Bamboo, cloth.
Interactive artwork and installation project created for Peats Ridge Festival at Glenworth Valley, 2010.
As a member of the organisation Envirocraft, I lead a team of 6 artists to design and construct a large organic-looking structure from bamboo poles and two-way stretch fabric.
Festival-goers were invited to assist with decorating the cocoon with paint, yarn, and other recycled materials.
My team was also responsible for safely dismantling the structure at the conclusion of the four-day festival and ensuring that all materials were re-used or recycled after the event.
As you can see from the photos, community embers of all ages had a fantastic time participating in this activity. The cocoon also offered shade from the sun during the day, and a quiet place for friends to gather at night.
