About the JMGA

The Jewellers and Metalsmiths Group of Australia, NSW (JMGA-NSW Inc.) is a membership based organisation, representing jewellery and object practitioners throughout New South Wales. As a volunteer non-profit organisation we provide a forum to promote, support and develop the field of contemporary jewellery.

JMGA-NSW is part of a loose affiliation of state jewellery and metalsmiths groups (JMGV, JMGQ, JMGA WA, etc) collectively known as JMGA. JMGA is the national forum for the biennial conferences.

The primary aims of the JMGA are to:

  • promote the crafts of jewellery and metalsmithing in Australia;

  • act as a vehicle by which jewellers and metalsmiths can communicate with each other, and those interested in this area;

  • support the advancement of craft in Australia;

  • maintain an exchange of information with similar groups in Australia and overseas;

  • publish newsletters and/or magazines which will be of benefit and promote members and membership;

  • generate funds, for the advancement of the crafts of jewellery and metal-smithing in Australia;

  • become a lobbying force in such areas as legislation affecting jewellers and metal-smiths and exhibitions;

  • consolidate the craft of jewellery and metalwork in Australia as an art form.

About Sydney Craft Week Festival

The 8th annual Sydney Craft Week Festival runs from 11 - 20 October 2024, for ten days of making, stimulating exhibitions and events and inspiring conversations about craft in all its forms for Sydney’s designer makers, craft community and craft lovers.

Sydney Craft Week is about celebrating creativity and the handmade in all its forms. This festival creates the opportunity for the whole community to engage with craft, experience the benefits of making, and purchase local handmade work.

Sydney Craft Week is the only festival in Sydney dedicated to making by hand. Led by the Australian Design Centre and supported by an advisory group of craft sector professionals, Sydney Craft Week brings together contemporary crafts organisations and individuals in a celebration of craft across the city as part of a ten-day festival each year in October.

Each year, Sydney Craft Week puts out a Call for Entries for galleries, shops, cultural organisations and institutions, and individual makers to host events, ranging from large-scale exhibitions to one-off workshops encompassing the breadth and power of craft. The festival fosters community participation and creativity, with the opportunity for the public to meet artists, buy and learn about craft and get involved in making.

Sydney Craft Week invites all residents and visitors to experience Sydney’s vibrant craft scene. Most events are free to enter, with ticketed events managed by host organisations and venues.
